The characteristics of a roof are linked to climatic conditions, position of the house and local building habits.
The material used for covering depend on urban laws, and on the choice of the owner advised by the architect.
Even with a good choice of material, the wind carrying various particles and debris deposits these on roofs and they stick between the joints of the roof, forming an ideal support for moss to develop.
In springtime, the warming temperature and the rain help turning algae, moss and lichen green. These developments contribute to weakening the roofing material and limit the lifespan of the roof.
To eliminate these pathological developments one usually uses biocide products  who besides the risk of water pollution are limited to destroying moss for a short period.
Once treated with those biocide products, the roof will tend to get covered again with new biological matter. This will happen very quickly because the surface of the roof has become rough due to previous treatment with harsh products.
So when a roof is covered in moss, one must look for a lasting remedy that will be kind to the environment.
It is with these ideas in mind that DMOS has been developed. It is not about applying an agressive product, but about incorporating to the roofing an almost inert matter( see repotrt on water) that will be a cure (destruction of mosses)in the weeks after its application, but also and foremost a preventative effect (avoid new settlement of moss) for the long term (many decades).
Applied efficiently the DMOS system will last for at least 50 years. The roof of your house is its guardian, it would be a pity to let moss destroy it.

Methods of demossing

There are up to now 4 ways of demossing.

1ST : BRUSHING, the most simple:

To do with a hard brush to remove the moss and soft enough in order not to damage the surface. This mechanical action gives an immediate clean look to your roof. But you have to do this every year because this intervention has no  preventative benefit and there will always be
some root residues stuck in difficult places to reach. The mosses will regenerate quickly as the roof surface becomes more rough after many treatment with a brush.

2ND : HIGH PRESSURE

Done with a high pressure hose, this method eliminates efficiently the moss on its support but it damages this one badly. The powerful jet gets into tiny fissures made by the moss in order to dislodge the moss by its roots. This action accentuates the weakness and favors the development of new settlement of moss. The results of cleanliness of the roof can be appreciated straight away, but this operation has to be repeated every 5 to 7 years.
This cleaning technique can be completed by a coat of paint. The coat of paint will temporarily fill the tiny fissures but eventually the paint will flake away.

3RD: CHEMICAL and polluting

Done in the same way as the high pressure water one, this treatment involves using a polluting chemical product in order to destroy the moss.
The result of cleanliness of the roof can be appreciated straight away, but this operation has to be repeated every 5 to 7 years. This cleaning technique can also be supplemented by a coat of paint but the adherence of the paint can be a problem.

4 th method is natural and permanent: DMOS

DMOS is put on your roof, the wind and the rain do the job of eliminating the moss.
This treatment of demossing and anti-moss has existed for over 30 years. Our technique consists in the application of a thin latticed strip of oxidized copper. This procedure destroys the moss, it becomes black and disintegrates and is eliminated away by the rain and wind.

Actions and Reactions

When in contact with the DMOS system, the water is charged with ions. In contact with the charged water the biological developments are destroyed and thanks to wind and rain are eliminated in a natural manner.
The effect is quick, as soon as the treatment has been applied and the rain has come you will see the moss changing colour, thinning and then disappearing. Whatever the amount of moss on your roof DMOS can be applied with convincing results.

WHY DMOS ?

Apart for purposefully designed grass roofs, it is not recommended to let vegetation settle in.
The roofing materials wear down in time, offering fissures for vegetable matter to settle in. The roots of moss give organic acids that damage your roof and provoke leakage, the roots of stronger plants can even damage the structure of your roof.

The safety of the operator installing the DMOS system is paramount. Spring is the right time.
Its installation
The installation of DMOS is easy. On slate roofs the product is attached to hooks, on tiled roofs it is applied with an adhesive.


The beneficial effects of copper

Its antibacterial and anti fungal effects justify its use in water pipes and in some countries on roofs and drainpipes.
Its resistance to corrosion and its chemical composition prevent the spreading and the settlement of algae and mosses. The copper salts, the oxychlorure have anti fungal properties.
Copper is a modern and economical covering material. Its unequaled longevity justifies the slightly high initial cost. Once the treatment is applied, you can forget the whole thing. Rain and wind do the work, the moss dies and turns to dust.

DMOS 's efficiency is beyond reproach. Its copper alloy allows a chemical reaction in contact with water and kills all mushrooms and mosses on roofs.
Though only applied once, it remains the most economical treatment on the market and surpasses other scrubbing methods. Copper is a natural element, it's kind to the environment (see report) and has proved its efficiency over the years.
